Chocolate Veil Coral Bells

Common name:Chocolate Veil Coral Bells
Botanical name:Heuchera 'Chocolate Veil'

'Chocolate Veil' is a heuchera hybrid with large, chocolatey-black to maroon leaves, with prominent silver veining and stippling. The leafy mound grows about 12 or so inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide and is lovely on its own. But the foliage is topped in early summer with tall, delicate stems covered in white to blush pink, bell shaped flowers. The flowers are excellent cut, or leave them be and deadhead when they are spent. Great foliage like this is a garden boon.

Botanical name:Hibiscus syriacus

Rose of Sharon is a deciduous shrub that grows 8 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide. Its leaves are lobed and coarsely toothed, and of a medium green. Flowers appear July through September, and may be simple, single petaled, or multi-petaled like a rose or camellia. Flower colors range through the pinks, mauves, reddish purples, and white. Some flowers have "eyes" making the flower appear bicolored.

Weigela

Common name:Weigela
Botanical name:Weigela florida

As a rule, they are rounded, with an arching to spreading habit, but size is dependent on cultivar, with shrubs as small as 3 feet to ones as large as 10 to 12 feet. Leaves are simple, finely serrated, and green to red to bronze, depending on cultivar. Flowers appear in May to June, are tubular, and range from white through every conceivable pink, to dark ruby red. Use in foundation or shrub borders, mass planting, or as hedges or screens.

Diablo Ninebark is a small, dense upright shrub, growing about 5 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. The foliage emerges reddish, matures to green, and turns yellow in the fall. White flowers open in late spring. Its narrow habit makes it a nice choice for a hedge.

Sunny Border Blue Speedwell

Common name:Sunny Border Blue Speedwell
Botanical name:Veronica 'Sunny Border Blue'

This tall hybrid speedwell features dense, upright, terminal spikes (racemes) of dark violet-blue flowers which bloom from late May to frost. Flower spikes typically rise 8 to 12 inches above basal foliage. Wrinkled, dark green leaves are up to 2 inches long. Good fresh cut flower. 1993 Perennial Plant of the Year. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide.

Palace Purple Coral Bells

Common name:Palace Purple Coral Bells
Botanical name:Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple'

'Palace Purple' was one of the the first red-leafed coral bells introduced. It is variable in height and color (source is key), they generally have purple to bronze to dark green foliage that is sharply lobed, and they grow about 18 to 20 inches tall and wide. Flowers are white and bloom early spring. While it tolerates shade, leaf color is best with some sun. Some plants are seed-source, and so leaf-color varies.
